Dixie Classic Chevy Club, Marietta, Ga.
ABOUT THE DIXIE CLASSIC CHEVY CLUB
The Dixie Classic Chevy Club was formed in the summer of 1981, as a local chapter
of the Classic Chevy Club International. The International Club, in Orlando,
Florida, has been in existence since 1974. The original members of the Dixie Club
felt that there was enough interest in the North-metro Atlanta area to warrant
a club of our very own. We began with approximately 15 members and rapidly
expanded to the 55 or so families that make up the current membership.
The Dixie Classic Chevy Club's purpose is to promote the ownership, preservation,
and restoration of the 1955, '56, and '57 Chevrolet cars and trucks, as well as
associated literature, novelties, and related items. We have recently expanded
our model years to include classic Chevys through 1972. We encourage fellowship
and technical help whenever possible to anyone interested in these vehicles and
their time period. ANY 1955 through 1972 Chevy qualifies! We are just as
interested in vehicles that are driven every day as we are in show cars. We enjoy
looking at, and talking about ALL makes and models. Our club includes a wide
variety of '55 -'72 Chevys, ranging from project cars to show cars, garage kept
to daily drivers, original to highly modified. In short, if you own any kind of
Chevrolet vehicle built between 1955 and 1972, you belong in our club.
What if you don't currently own one of these classics? That's OK, ownership is
not necessary. The Dixie Classic Chevy Club members are a group who share an
interest, and are more than happy to help you find that car of your dreams, or to
share memories of that Classic Chevy that you wish you had kept.
The club meets the first Thursday of the month for dinner and a business
meeting. Members get together for dinner around 6:30 at Piccadilly’s on
Cobb Parkway in Marietta, just a half mile south of the Big Chicken. Our
meetings start at 7:30 p.m. and are usually over by 8:30 or 9:00. We discuss
upcoming events, plan our club's participation at many car shows, share ideas, and
have informative sessions on different aspects of owning, restoring, and
maintaining our cars. We also share with our membership the various mailings we
receive from parts manufacturers, dealers, and other clubs from around the country.
In addition to the business aspect, we pride ourselves on being a "people's club."
We host cookouts, have an annual Christmas party, and plan several events
throughout the year for the entire family. We travel to car shows and swap meets,
and host our own Cruise Night the first Saturday of the month beginning in April
and continuing through October. We really do enjoy the fellowship that comes from
having an active club.
