“Our Sympathy”

The members of the Dixie Classic Chevy Club wish to extend their sincere sympathy to Alice and Wally Bell in the recent loss of Alice’s mother, Mrs. Betty Sanders. Mrs. Sanders died on Thursday, November 20th, and was buried on Saturday, November 22nd.

MINUTES of the November 6th DCCC meeting

Meeting began at 7:45pm

Minutes and treasurer's report were both waived. David said there was approximately the same amount of money as last month.

There will be no December meeting. It will be held at the Christmas Party, which is on 12/6/03. The doors will open at 6pm and we plan on eating around 7pm.

Sandy gave a report on the Calvary Children's Home picnic. She said there were 21 club members there and 30

teenagers. She said that they would have to rethink the planned activities as most of the children now are teenagers.

She said everyone had a great time and any remaining food was donated to the home.

There was a reminder that the Moultrie trip would be soon coming up (this month) and if anyone wanted a room at the Holiday Inn Express, they needed to contact Bill Brown right away.

David gave a report about his visit with the Wal-mart at Shallowford, which was unfortunately a NO.

David also reported that he had received a letter in the mail from the Eagle Machine Shop, in Auburn, GA, offering their services to be a guest speaker. This brought on a discussion that it would be great to have speakers and it might increase members in the club.

At the last Cruise Night, the club brought in $111 in raffle money, so after paying $56 to the winner and $65 to the

music man, the club only $l0 :(

The raffle prize was provided by Bob & Sandy Bryant. Don won a 1957 car puzzle and Steven won a Thanksgiving turkey decoration, which he gave to his wife, who joined us at the meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:59pm.

Calvary Picnic ‘03 - by Sandy Bryant

The 5th Annual Calvary Children's Home picnic was held on Saturday, November 1, and to quote Bob and Barbara Forth..."This was the best Calvary picnic - EVER!!" It is hard not to agree when we had perfect weather, lots of delicious food, fun games and activities, helium balloons everywhere, many happy children(23), many helpful Dixie Classic Club members and friends (21) and many happy (and very tired at the end of the day) greyhound pups! As we were setting up the activities the first question asked by one of the little boys..."Are the puppies coming?" As always, the greyhounds added MUCH fun for the children. A very special ‘thank you’ goes to Dee and Jon for bringing the greyhounds along with several other greyhound owners. Special thanks also go to Alice and Wally; Bob and Barbara; Donna and Charles; Charlene and Charles; Judy and Lamar and their son and daughter-in-law, Derek and Jody; Amy and Ed; Bill Brown and to our #1 Hamburger Flipper, Bob. As we have been repeatedly told by the Calvary staff "our presence is the best present that we can give these children". Thanks for helping make this a special day for these special children.

“Moultrie Fall Swap Meet”

The most recent Moultrie Swap Meet, held Friday through Sunday, November 21st – 23rd , was the best ever! The weather was beautiful with sunshine and high temperatures in the mid-seventies. The number of vendors had increased noticeably from previous shows. Vendor spaces filled the area all the way to the fence on the south side, and new aisles and spaces were provided on the west side toward the car corral. People turned out in large numbers on Friday and Saturday to search for parts, enjoy the weather, look at cars or memorabilia, and see old friends. The Dixie Classic Chevy Club was well-represented with four rooms-full at the Executive Inn (soon to be the Best Western). Bob Bryant and Bob Forth, Lamar May and Danny Daniels, James Luellen and his wife, and Wayne Foshee and I were all there.

With so many vendors, so many Classic Car parts, memorabilia, art and craft items, and cars in the car corral, it was impossible to see everything … but we tried. I heard lots of comments about tired, aching legs and feet, and I knew first hand what they were talking about. There was a great deal of evidence that the economy has improved. Folks were buying more this time compared to the last few years. Over the last few years, vendors complained that even though there were lots of folks there, people were just looking, and not buying. That certainly was not true this fall.

Friday night, after a wonderful “All You Can Eat” dinner, Bob Bryant, Wayne Foshee and I held a Director’s Meeting. After making several important decisions about the club’s future, we had a “Tech Session” as part of the meeting. One of the technical issues discussed was the possible cause of the smoke rising from the ballast resistor on my ’55 Chevy now that the wires have been reconnected and a new resistor and new original-style ignition switch installed. While there are other possible explanations, we observed that the fact that my primary source of assistance in reconnecting the wires was from my old friend, Bill Elder, a Mopar enthusiast, was a likely reason.

After all, Mopar stuff is weird. Don’t get me wrong. I’m very grateful to my Mopar friend for the tremendous amount of help he’s provided. But you can’t help but wonder.

If you missed this show, you missed a great opportunity. The next one is February 6-8. I’ll have some rooms for club members, and I’m sure we’ll have lots of vendors and parts. It will be winter, so the weather is another matter. But who knows? In South Georgia, you can have balmy temperatures even in February.

“Meeting Location for 2004”

Your Board of Directors recommends moving our meeting place to Piccadilly’s on Hwy 41 a few blocks south of the Big Chicken. The primary advantages include a centralized location, which is more convenient for many members, and a private meeting room. We have confirmed that the meeting room is available on the first Thursday of the month. The proposal will be voted on at the brief business meeting that will be part of our Christmas Party.
