OCTOBER CRUISE NIGHT WORKERS: Jon Hansen

OCTOBER RAFFLE PRIZE CONTRIBUTORS: Bob & Sandy Bryant

MINUTES

of the September 5 - DCCC regular meeting

Bob Bryant called the meeting to order at 7:35PM.

First up was the treasury report – Therese reported $1,354.74 in the checking account. We have an insurance bill coming up, and the Christmas party to be paid out of this money.

Next – Bob Bryant reported that during cruise night (August) because of Nicole Caruso’s efforts the club collected enough money with the 50/50 raffle to pay the DJ and put $50.00 in our club account – thanks Nicole! The music man has another commitment for cruise night (September) and Gary Caruso was able to get someone else to fill in for the same amount of money. Jon Hansen will bring the tables and banner from his hanger that he is allowing us to use until we elect a new President in December. Jim and Glenda Bolt will be working the table. There will be NO vendors allowed to set up during our cruise nights so as to keep peace with the parking lot owner – we do not want to lose this location! Bob Bryant took a vote to suspend the music and 50/50 raffle for our last cruise (October) but it seems there are more people that want the music to stay. Therese, the treasurer, said that if club members want the music to stay we need a lot more volunteers to walk around and sell tickets, the club cannot afford to pay the DJ every month from club funds.

Ed Brown, our Webmaster and Newsletter Editor, reported that the bill for the Server of our Website is due November 1 – it costs the club $4.95/mo. to maintain this Website. Ed has added an “Electronic Version of our Newsletter” to our Website. The October Edition can be seen at: http://www.dixieclassicchevy.com/10.htm. Bob Bryant would like members to check this out as we may start using the computer as a way to save money on sending out the newsletter. Ed has also updated the names, addresses, phone numbers AND e-mail addresses of our members. This information may be seen by going to the following: www.dixieclassicchevy.com/member.htm Thanks Ed!

Glen Barnett spoke about the auto fair at JR Miller Park held on October 19th and 20th. A plaque will be given to everyone who enters with a picture of the show vehicle. The cost is $20.00 to pre-register and $25.00 to register the day of the event.

The annual fall picnic at Calvary will be November 2. Please keep the date open – we urge club members to participate.

Our Christmas party will be at Cheatham Hall on December 7th. This will be Therese Caruso and family’s last year to handle the party – please think about taking this over and let Therese know if you are interested. If you are coming to the party but will not make one of the next two meetings please call Therese and let her know 770-423-7491 so she can plan on you and put you down for a dish!

We were all thrilled to see Wally Bell at our meeting – he had major by-pass surgery and looks great. Wally also quit smoking – keep up the good work Wally!

Bill Brown knows of a 55 chevy for sale. If anyone is interested call Bill or read under “FOR SALE” in Newsletter..

Tom Cole had chrome work done in town and was pleased with the work. If interested call Peach Plating Corp. 770-732-9300. Tom also stated he knows someone with a 57 hardtop, Brian Dixon 770-887-1824. If you need skirts, Dave Jordan – 770-724-1500 and Tom (770-924-2786) has Rocker Panels new in the box for $180.00.

Tom Means is back with his wife and friends from a 13,000 mile trip to Alaska. No, it wasn’t in his Chevy! He wants everyone to know that there are tons of old cars and trucks in Alaska, it seems nothing gets thrown away. Anyone interested in going on a car trip/caravan to check it out, please let Tom know!

Glen Barnett reminded everyone about the Nashville car show on September 27-30 in Music City. If you are interested in attending please call Glen for info!

The raffle gift was donated by the Bolt’s – the raffle brought in 22.00 and was won by Therese Caruso!

The meeting ended at 8:10PM and notes were taken by Therese Caruso.

If you have an item of interest to the club, please contact Ed Brown at 770-364-3555.

See you at the October 3 club meeting!

FOR SALE:

1955 Chevrolet Bel Air 2 door sedan. Car was purchased in 1979, when I was 14. It was my first car. Body was complete and assembled, interior was mostly gone. My father and I disassembled the entire body, including removing the body from the frame and stripping the suspension down to the bare frame. The entire frame, suspension and body was then sandblasted. The body needs quite a bit of metal work, but is very restorable. The trunk floor is near perfect, needs the tailpan replaced. The floor inside the car had some rust in the rear corners where the floor meets the rear wheel house. Rocker panels need replaced. I have quarter panel sections for both sides. The wheelwells were rounded out to run slicks for drag racing in the ‘60s or ‘70s. In 1980, only quarter sections were available, so that’s what I bought. I think I have all the chrome, including Bel Air dash trim and quarter moulding I found in a salvage yard–the originals were cut when the rear wheel openings were cut. The fenders, doors and hood are in very good shape, may have some holes, but since the car was blasted, there are no surprises, no bondoed over rust holes–what you see is what you get. I have one extra door, and extra hood that’s in fair condition, extra inner fenders, and many boxes of parts. A tilt column from a ‘70 Caprice goes with it as well as two 3-speed transmissions, a rearend center section, and a 2-barrel 265 with an overdrive transmission. The car has some sentimental value, but after 23 years of ownership and no progress, it’s time to sell it to someone who will appreciate it and restore it or build a great hotrod. I’m not sure of the value, and will entertain serious offers. I will consider selling the engine and o/d tranny separate. I also have some ‘56 Nomad EZI glass and a ‘56 Nomad right upper paint divider. I have some Rochester and Holley 4-bbl carbs as well. Please contact me on my cellphone at 404-451-9990. Leave a message if you do not reach me. The car is at my house in McDonough (Henry County). Thank you very much. Maybe in the next few years, I’ll find another Classic Chevy that doesn’t require so much work.

He has also just purchased a 1963 Impala (2-door hardtop) with a 6 cylinder and 3-speed on the column. The body is structurally sound but needs paint and the interior.
