MINUTES of the August 7th DCCC meeting

Call to order: @ 7:47pm

Bill welcomed our 2 visitors: George & Donna Blackshaw.

Reading of the Minutes: waived

Treasurer's Report: $1,364.34

Old Business:

Bill reported that the August Cruise Night was a great success as it didn't rain this time. He reported that there were approximately 100 cars and $132.00 was raised via the raffle. After paying the DeeJay, there was one whole dollar left! Our lovely Deejay actually donated $25 of his pay to the club treasury.

Bill stated that there was no one signed up to coordinate the September Cruise Night, so Jim Brown volunteered - thanks Jim!

There was more discussion about moving the Cruise Nights next year.

After visiting the Kennesaw family restaurant in July, it was decided that it would be too small. Again, several other locations were suggested but most are too small or have parking problems. One suggestion was the McDonalds at 41 North & Acworth Due West Road (Butler Crossing) as the manager is very nice but again, parking problems.

Bob Bryant volunteered to check out a new possiblity - Fowl Play & CiCi's Pizza and will report at the September meeting.

John Crenshaw reported that his missing car had been found & stripped (we were sorry to hear).

New Business:

There was some discussion about new club outings. Jim Brown suggested the Blue Willow Inn or the Marble Festival (unfortunately, he later discovered it would happen the same night as our Cruise Night).

The club decided to travel as a group to Dallas, GA on Saturday, August 23, 2003 for their Cruise Night. Anyone wanting to go, should meet at the Kroger on Dallas Highway
at the Village Green Shopping Center at 4pm. This will hopefully allow everyone a chance to park together.

Announcements:

Next meeting - September 4, 2003

Cruise Night - September 6, 2003

Upcoming Events:

The Club picnic at Calvary Children's Home - 1st weekend in November (finalized date to be determined).

The Moutrie Trip in November.

August 30, 2003: "Blast from the Fast Past" Show at Regal 22 Cinemas in Austell
September 13, 2003: Super Chevy Car & Truck Show - Acworth, GA
Oct. 11th - 13th: Annual Peach State Bow Tie Show in Liburn

Amy Lester donated some lovely cardboard/paper antique cars for the members.

Jim & Glenda Bolt provided the raffle prize and Jim Brown won an electric turtle.

Meeting adjourned: 8:35pm

From the Driver’s Seat

Boy, did we have fun on the fourth Saturday. Members of the Dixie Classic Chevy Club got together and went to the Dallas Cruise Night. We met at Village Green Shopping Center so we could arrive in Dallas together. Our group included Bob and Sandy Bryant, Bob and Barbara Forth, new friends, Donna and George Blackshaw, yours truly and wife, Becky. When we arrived in Dallas, the police let us through the blockade. As you know, downtown Dallas is blocked off on the fourth Saturday, reserved for Classic Cars, hot rods, and antique vehicles only. I was surprised that they let me through since I was in the ’87 K-5 Blazer. Maybe it was because I was with our group of real classics, or because I had my car club hat on, or like most things, because I was with Becky.

The setting was perfect. The streets were lined with Classic Cars, and to the ladies’ delight, there were numerous antique shops. We looked at cars, talked about cars, checked out the antiques, and had some ice cream.

As we strolled among the cars and antique shops, we met John Crenshaw and his two boys, who were also enjoying the cars. Charles and Charlene Ross arrived a little late. The Dixie Classic Chevy Club was well represented in Dallas this Saturday.

The Main Street Restaurant was temporarily closed, so we headed for the Briar Patch on Highway 120 for a barbecue dinner. The barbecue was excellent, and the company was even better. We then continued our evening by going to the “Wendy’s Cruise Night” on Dallas Highway. George and Donna decided we were okay, and joined the club. They’re our newest members, and we welcome them!

We had a great time. If you missed it, we missed you. Join us for our next get together. You’ll be glad you did.

                                                                                    Keep ‘em rolling,

                                                                                    Bill
