MINUTES of the April 3rd DCCC meeting
Call to order: 7:33pm
Guests: Steve Raines - he used to be an old member about 10 years ago and came with a
friend. He has a 1957 2-door Bel Air. Don Farnell was the other guest. He has a 1964
Chevy. Both joined at tonight’s meeting!
Reading of minutes waived.
Treasurer's report: $1,341.80.
Old Business:
A cruise night director is still needed!
Discussions regarding the cruise night, which will be this Saturday, April 5, 2003 took place. The DeeJay will be Morgan Sellers. There was some discussion about the parking lot and it's condition. If the area is still under repair, it will just be moved to another part of the same lot.
Club outing at the Varsity: According to Bob Bryant (via e-mail as he is in NC), there were approximately 8 cars and 17 people. Everyone had a very good time.
New Business:
Bill Brown brought up Dee Hansen's idea about a potluck picnic and Jim Brown
suggested a similar idea, possibly being held at Calloway Gardens. After some discussion,
it was decided that June might be a good month and Bill asked Jim to look into picking a
date. More discussion can take place next month to narrow down the place and date.
Cruise nights in general were brought up and various ones were discussed, including the one in Dallas on the last weekend of the month.
This month's raffle prize was provided by Mac & June MacGregor. Lamar May won (with one of Jim Bolt's tickets) a clamp lamp.
Alice Bell brought up Pidgeon Forge and reminded people that it is the 3rd weekend of May.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:03pm.
NEEDED: Raffle Contributors AND Cruise Night Helpers for September
RAFFLE PRIZE CONTRIBUTOR FOR MAY MEETING:
Jon & Dee Hansen
CRUISE NIGHT HELPERS FOR MAY:

Varsity outing
By Bob Bryant
Sunday, March 24th was still a little chilly to cruise with the windows open, but it was sunny and the wind was strong enough to keep that pesky pollen blown off of our cars! Seven classic cars gathered at the Whitewater parking lot and looked good in a convoy up to the Varsity.
Charles and Charlene, Bob and Sandy, Tom and Susie, Tom Cole and Wayne Foshee were there with their Chevys out of winter hibernation and all polished up. Jim Brown showed up with quite an entourage...an attractive lady friend, his oldest son, and two cute little granddaughters!
We are happy to say that Bob and Barbara Forth also joined in the outing in their newly
acquired '39 Ford, and that Ed and Amy arrived at the Varsity in the nick of time to enjoy
a large orange frosty and show off the newest purchase, a '68 white Impala Super Sport.
FOOD, FUN & FELLOWSHIP WERE ENJOYED BY ALL! Thanks to Bob for putting
together our first official Dixie Chevy Club outing of the 2003
season.
First Cruise Night of 2003
By Bill Brown

Our first Cruise Night of 2003 was absolutely wonderful. We had about seventy-five cars gathered in the parking lot at Cobb Place Shopping Center on Barrett Parkway under sunshine and balmy skies. It was a very pleasant evening. That’s in spite of forecasts by our weathermen of rain and cold temperatures. We also had to work around the construction site. A section of the parking lot nearest Barrett Parkway had been broken up, and the area had been partially filled and packed in preparation for the construction of another store. However, these factors didn’t hamper us in the least.
Our DJ, Morgan Sellers, showed up on time. Dan Lelak and I had both visited the site earlier in the day at different times. Dan called, and we decided that we could use power from the outlet Glen Barnett put in for us last year. We’d just have to use a couple of 100 foot extension cords. So we had power and music and announcements, good weather, and seventy-five or so cars. We sold raffle tickets for the 50/50 drawing, and the winner was delighted to walk away with $57.00! Fifty-seven is one of our favorite numbers, isn’t it?
We also signed up a couple of new members. Sandy Goggins renewed his membership and told me about his son, Walt Goggins, winning an Oscar in the Academy Awards in March of last year for producing and co-starring in a short film. Walt went to high school at Lithia Springs High School, and moved to Los Angles not long after graduation. He has developed an excellent acting career over the past twelve years. You may have seen him on TV. He co-stars in “The Shield,” the series about the Los Angeles Police Department. He’s also been in a number of films. The Oscar, however, was for a film in the “Short Film Live Action” category. It’s entitled “The Accountant.” It’s a comedy about two brothers trying to save the family farm. An accountant has convinced the brothers that the “corporate conglomerate” is trying to take over not only their farm, but the entire southern way of life. This hard drinking, chain smoking, backwoods accountant comes up with some very creative and ridiculous insurance scams as a way to raise the money that’s needed. A key line and clue to the movie is when the accountant, after reviewing the farm financials, says, “It’s do-able … but it ain’t gonna be purdy.” I won’t spoil the comedy for you by telling you more than that. After all, Sandy, the proud dad, gave me a copy of the thirty-eight minute movie, and I’ll be glad to loan it to any members interested in seeing it first hand.
So our first Cruise Night of the season was great from most any perspective. If you missed it, I hope you’ll join us next time.
