JANUARY 2003

IMPORTANT CLUB DATES:

January 2: First Meeting of the New Year!

MINUTES of the December 7th DCCC Party/meeting

Treasurer's Report - Therese reported there was $ 841.57 in the account after paying for Christmas party and for the insurance. Dues were being collected at the meeting.

New officers were elected for the year 2003 - they are:

President - Bill Brown
Vice President - Bob Bryant
Secretary - Amy Higgins
Treasurer - David Homoki
Webmaster and Newsletter - Ed Brown

We still need to fill the position of Cruise Director - the job has been modified so that the individual that takes over can still bring their car - now all is needed is a card table, our banner, give away gifts and the box with the cash box and receipt jars, most of us bring our own chairs so the metal chairs will not be needed. Hopefully this will bring forth someone new to be in charge of cruise nights. Thank you to Gary Caruso for handling cruise nights and music for our 2002 season. Thank you also to Jon Hansen for allowing the club to store all of our cruise night stuff in his hanger!

We were in need of someone to handle the Christmas party as the Caruso family has done it for the last five years and is ready to pass the torch and at the end of the evening the Hansen's have decided to do it next year. Thank you Dee and John!!!!!!

We still need someone to handle the Calvary picnic as Sandy Bryant has done it forever and is also ready to take a break! Thank you Sandy for so many great years handling Calvary! If interested please contact Sandy.

Months ago it was voted on to give Mordt and Sally honorary memberships to our club. A certificate was issued by our board of directors and presented to the Mordt's after the Christmas Party.

Dave Homoki commented at the end of the meeting that if each member picks up something to do no one person will be loaded down with jobs. Everyone needs to maybe pick up one thing so it makes it easier on the elected officers. Dave has served as treasurer before and is taking it again for the 2003 year.

I must add my two cents here as secretary, I have served as Treasurer this past year 2002 and because of the way things turned out with the elected officers for 2002, I also served as secretary, and thankfully was able to get Bob Bryant to step up and help me as substitute president, thank you Bob! I have done many jobs in the club and always felt at the end a feeling of accomplishment and I always felt as though my efforts were always appreciated, I have ordered club shirts, worked registration for our last car show; handled 50/50 raffles at cruise nights (Nicole always collected the most money), handled the Christmas party, served as secretary and treasurer for 2002, and Gary has handled the cruise nights for 2002. My family has always been very supportive of my efforts and I thank them for all the help and support they have given me. We are ready to step out and let someone else take over. The Brown's and the Bryant's are always ready to help and take over being officers as there are times no one else will volunteer. There are many people in the club that have not given their time as yet to any of our positions or there are some who did in the past but have not done so lately. You cannot have a successful club without club participation. I am sure that if there was some rotation and the same people were not doing it all, everyone would get a sense of being a part of this club! Please think about the open positions and let an officer know which one you would like to do!

I hope everyone has a merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

Signing off now for 2002, let's start the gift exchange!

“From the Driver’s Seat”

Folks, it is with great enthusiasm and high hopes that I look forward to 2003 with the Dixie Classic Chevy Club. We’ve had a lot of great years together, and this will be no exception, thanks to you. I’m looking forward to exciting Cruise Nights, enjoyable meetings, fun trips, and rewarding projects like our picnics with our friends at Calvary Children’s Home. Maybe you’ve got some ideas or suggestions for our club. If so, please let us know. See you at Ryan’s for the next meeting. Bring a Classic Chevy, a friend and a good appetite.

Keep ‘em rolling, Bill Brown

Tom Cole’s 1957 Chevy

Tom Cole, a long time member of the Dixie Classic Chevy Club, has had his ’57 for about five years now. He’s made substantial improvements every year. This year was no exception. Tom uses his ’57 as his primary means of transportation. It’s a daily driver. Therefore, he wants it to be safe, functional, and comfortable. This year’s improvements included air conditioning, power windows, and an updated windshield wiper system. Here’s the story.

Tom considered both Vintage Air and Air-Tique. Both are quality products, well established, and with good reputations. They are priced competitively. Tom chose the Air-Tique for two reasons. First, Danny Howell of Bow Tie Chevys recommended the Air-Tique over Vintage Air by a slight margin. He said that on a scale of one to ten, he’d give the Vintage Air an eight and the Air-Tique a ten. Tom discovered the second reason in conversations with our own Glen Barnett. The Vintage Air unit can’t be used if you also have the Rain Gear windshield wiper system installed. The Rain Gear under dash unit will be in the way. However, the Air-Tique and Rain Gear system are compatible. Some other sources also made this point. Since Tom planned to use the Rain Gear windshield wiper system, the decision was clear. Tom also purchased a power window system from Bow Tie Chevys.

Having chosen the equipment supplier and purchased the Air-Tique air conditioning system, as well as the power window kit and Rain Gear windshield wiper system, the next step was choosing an installer. Bad Toyz had been recommended. Tom visited their shop on Highway 41 near Day’s Chevrolet and talked the project over with the installer. He seemed capable and competent, and he was certainly conveniently located for Tom. Also, Tom needed the work done as quickly as possible since he works out of this car. Bad Toyz seemed to be up to the job. Sure enough, the job has now been completed with only a few minor delays. Tom’s pleased with the results. He now has up to date, functional AC, power windows and wipers. I can hardly wait to check it out in person. Congratulations to Tom on excellent project research, implementation and results!
